Seven series where somebody is always putting the kettle on, and somebody else is always dead.
There is something about a mystery set around a teapot. The stakes are a murder, and yet you know the shop will open tomorrow and the scones will be fine. These are the ones I hand to people who ask where to start. Most are first books in long series, so if one clicks you are set for the winter.
Laura Childs · Tea Shop Mysteries, book 1
Theodosia Browning runs the Indigo Tea Shop in Charleston, and the series leans happily into it: candlelit tea parties, historic houses, and recipes in the back. The place to start if you want the full tea-room experience.

Claire Willowbrook · three mysteries in one volume
Mine, so take this with a grain of sugar. A former Seattle lawyer, a blue tea shop on a foggy Washington harbor, and three short cases over one year. Short enough to finish in an evening each. Free in Kindle Unlimited.
See it on Amazon →Alexander McCall Smith · book 1
Precious Ramotswe sets up the first lady-run detective agency in Botswana and solves things mostly by paying attention to people. Gentle, funny and wise, and there is a great deal of red bush tea.
Find it on Amazon →Joanne Fluke · Hannah Swensen Mysteries, book 1
A bakery rather than a tea room, but it belongs here. Hannah runs The Cookie Jar in small-town Minnesota and has a mother who is constantly trying to marry her off. The recipes are real and people do bake them.
Find it on Amazon →M.C. Beaton · Agatha Raisin, book 1
A retired London PR woman moves to a Cotswolds village and cheats at the quiche competition. Someone dies. Agatha is prickly, vain and completely lovable, and the series is a long, comfortable one to settle into.
Find it on Amazon →Cleo Coyle · Coffeehouse Mysteries, book 1
For the coffee people. Clare Cosi manages a Greenwich Village coffeehouse and finds her assistant at the bottom of the stairs. The coffee detail is a big part of the pleasure.
Find it on Amazon →Richard Osman · book 1
Four friends in a retirement village meet weekly to look at cold cases, until a warm one turns up. Less tea shop, more tea and biscuits in the jigsaw room, but nobody who loves this list should miss it.
